- Quite a few features for staying in contact with friends and family members.
- Clean interface, Live Tile integration, and official support.
Cons

- The program might seem redundant alongside the Web version.
Facebook Chat Desktop is an officially supported version of Facebook Messenger for Windows 10. Through this program, users can chat with their friends and engage in a variety of activities. Messenger allows users to share content with each other, send payments, and much more. A user's entire friends list is available for conversations, and group conversations are available as well. With official support for Windows 10, the program includes Live Tile integration and other useful features for PC owners.
Messenger On The Desktop: Is It Worth Using?
Without a doubt, Facebook Chat Desktop features a clean user interface. It's strikingly similar to the Web and mobile app versions of the software. Users won't be able to video or voice chat on the program, which is disappointing. Still, virtually all other features found in Messenger are available here without compromise. Messenger doesn't include the Facebook Feed or anything else outside of Chat, but that's to be expected.
Individual users will know right away how Facebook Chat Desktop works. They can start a conversation or group conversation in a few seconds with ease. Fortunately, the convenience and fluidness of Messenger shines through in the Windows 10 version. Users can share GIFs, images, videos, and even send each other money. Managing contact preferences and individual conversations couldn't be easier with the app.
It's possible to delete or archive existing conversations, or users can be blocked from communication. Live Tiles show up in the Windows Toolbar and add a nice visual touch to the program. Unlike other Windows 10 apps, Facebook Chat Desktop is quite stable and isn't prone to sudden or unexpected crashes. Users will fire up this app and chat away without experiencing any major problems or headaches along the way.
Facebook Chat Is Solid But Somewhat Unnecessary
In the end, Facebook Chat Desktop runs in a similar manner to the Web version of Messenger. Not everyone will find it useful owning a standalone version of the instant messaging platform. The Web version makes the Desktop version somewhat redundant and unnecessary. Regardless, plenty of users will like the standalone Windows 10 app, especially due to the extra integrations with Windows PCs.
Facebook Chat Desktop is a well-designed program with few flaws. Certain features are lacking, but they're much easier to integrate into mobile apps anyways. For most people, Messenger on the desktop isn't a necessity. Most users will discover the app is a worthwhile download nonetheless. Regular updates and constant improvements make this onie of the better Windows 10 apps by far, and that shouldn't be overlooked by users.

Facebook Chat Desktop now lets you chat with Facebook friends from your desktop without dealing with the full website.
During the early days of Facebook, the site allowed you to send messages to friends who were offline and those who were online while chatting with other friends through a chat window. It later introduced a separate app that users must download to send messages back and forth while using their phones or other devices. Even if you primarily use your computer for chatting, you may notice a lag between when you send a message and when your friend receives that message. This new program cuts down on that lag time.
The other problem with using Facebook for chatting is that you usually need to open a browser to access the site. This can make your computer run slower than you would like, especially if you typically open multiple tabs or windows. By the time you finish looking over what other people posted and weeding through your notifications, it may take longer to respond to a simple message than you ever expected. With Facebook Chat Desktop, you now have the option of chatting with friends without using the Facebook site.
Facebook Chat Desktop looks like a small window that is similar to other messaging apps. When you log into your Facebook account, it instantly brings up a list of all your friends and shows you which friends are online and who is offline. It may even show you the last time that each person was online. You can enter a name in the box at the top of the screen to send a message to a specific person, or you can click on a name, type your message and send it. When you chat with friends who are currently online, you can send messages back and forth instantly.
This new program works with all operating systems and does not require that you open your browser first. It's great for those who are in school and those who work from home because it allows them to stay connected without taking a break from their work.
While Facebook Chat Desktop does have some benefits, it is not an officially licensed product and lacks the features found on the official app. Neither app lets you send video messages, but this app also prevents you from using emoticons and emojis in your messages and does not let you attach pictures to those messages either. It also will not work with GIF or animated picture messages. Facebook Chat Desktop is generally best for those who want something easy to use that will let them chat with friends without logging into Facebook first.
